ABSTRACTS FOR EVERYONE - JULY 18, 2026

ABSTRACTS FOR EVERYONE - JULY 18, 2026

$160.00

This is an Abstract Workshop for artists of any skill level. Participants will learn about the history of abstraction and the variety of materials, tools and techniques used by these innovators to create their signature pieces. We’ll explore color palettes, composition styles, and what it takes to make an abstract painting captivating. Regardless of your experience in abstraction, you will walk away from this workshop feeling excited to begin your own experience in creating non-representational art.

The workshop will be at my NEW Crockett Studio. This workshop will occur on Saturday, July 18th from 10am to 4pm.

Materials list – Abstracts for Everyone

Acrylic Paint

Artists can bring a combination of student-grade and professional-grade acrylic paints from makers like Golden, Utrecht, Liquitex and Blick Acrylics. Places to by these would be crafts stores like Michaels or art supply stores like Blick’s.A base selection of colors include cadmium red, ultramarine and cobalt blue, primary yellow, titanium white, mars black. You can also add other reds, blues, yellows, oranges, purples, and greens. Raw or burnt sienna, grays, or other earthtone colors are encouraged to bring as well.

Mediums

Golden or Liquitex polymer mediums in gloss and/or satin (again may purchase online at Jerrys Artarama or Dick Blick).

Markers

Charcoal, oil sticks or pastels, acrylic markers are options

Brushes

Bring a variety of sizes including round, flat and filbert (angled) brushes. In addition, bring several inexpensive house painting brushes. You will need 1/2 -inch, 1 inch, 2 inch and 3 inches, and smaller detail brushes. Brushes do not need to be expensive and can be purchased at any art or craft store like Michaels.

Canvas or Panels

Please bring 2-4 canvas or panel substrates. Although stretched canvases or canvas boards are already primed, please prepare your surface with 1-2 additional coats of gesso for a more professional surface.

Water containers

Any type of container to hold water such as cottage cheese containers or plastic food storage containers from the dollar store. I prefer 2-3 water containers at all times when painting. I like to use 1-gallon buckets that are available in hardware stores. Bring spray bottles with you to create effects and drips.
